Renter's Insurance

Renters insurance can protect the contents of your home from damage or loss caused by perils.  The HO-4 policy is designed for renters to cover damage or loss caused by:

• aircraft or any vehicle
• falling objects
• snow or hail
• water damage or steam damage, cracking, burning, or bulging of a steam or hot water heating system, air conditioning or automatic fire-protective system
• freezing of any appliance or plumbing, heating, air conditioning, or automatic sprinkler system
• smoke, fire, lightning, windstorm, hail, or explosion
• theft, vandalism, or any malicious behavior
• accidental damage from an artificially generated electrical current 

Renters must also make a choice between actual cash value (ACV) coverage or replacement cost coverage for your contents. Actual cash value covers your belongings for whatever it was determined worth at the time of loss or damage whereas replacement cost will pay what the actually cost is for replacement of the items you lost. For replacement cost, you will pay a higher premium, but it is the best coverage. You pay your deductible for either coverage.

Flood is not covered and, if you live in a flood prone area, you will need to purchase a separate flood insurance policy.
